Background:
Defendant, Diamond Offshore Drilling, (Diamond) owns and operates a fleet of offshore drilling vessels. Plaintiff, Keith Townsend (Townsend), applied for a job as a roustabout for Diamond. Townsend was offered a job upon the passing a physical examination and drug screening.

Townsend's screening MRI revealed two possible herniated discs with extruded fragments and nerve root involvement. Dr. Khan, a Diamond assigned physician, concluded the examination by sending Diamond a document stating Townsend was physically qualified for employment.

Background: Before the Court was defendant Fluid Crane's motion for summary judgment. Plaintiff Lennis George opposed the motion.

George alleged he was injured while ascending metal steps on the Apache 623B production platform located offshore. Fluid Crane sought summary judgment claiming George was not a Jones Act seaman.

Background: Plaintiff, Christopher Gregory, was employed by defendant, Kirby Inland Marine, LP ("Kirby").  Gregory was working as a deckhand aboard the Kirby-owned tug, M/V The City of New Orleans.  He allegedly suffered injuries to his elbow, shoulder, and back while attempting to release a securing wire back to a barge that was secured to the tug.

Background: The plaintiff, Stewart Stumbaugh, filed suit against the defendant, American Commercial Lines LLC ("ACL").

Stumbaugh was injured during a ten-day deckhand training session at the defendant's Illinois facility. The first six days of the training occurred on land. The seventh day was "fleet awareness" day, when ACL took trainees out to show them different types of barges and familiarize them with the barges' components.
